Using thumbnails view in folders
Right-clicking a folder and bringing up the Properties dialog box will allow you to Enable thumbnail view for that folder. When enabled, you can see thumbnail previews of your image files etc - other files will just appear as large icons.
You may also need to select Thumbnails from the View menu.
